ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WCIA) — The 2024 high school football season officially kicked off in Illinois with the first day of practice.

Schools statewide, including the St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans began practice for the upcoming season on Monday.

SJO finished last season with an 8-3 record, qualifying for the state finals for the third year in a row.

“You think back to last year, just how we’ve grown as a team and how the atmosphere has grown for us as individuals with winning a playoff game and going to Roxana, which was obviously a heartbreaking loss, but we definitely saw changes from two years ago at Mt. Carmel and we’re definitely heading in the right direction this year,” said senior offensive lineman Jackson Ennis.

High school football begins across Central Illinois on August 30.
