SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — City Water, Light and Power in Springfield is warning of a phishing scam that is using the company’s name and image.

CWLP officials said they’ve become aware of a spoof email going out that appears to be from the company’s Customer Service Office. The email requests that people “review a confidential document and sign” and it references a DocuSign application.

CWLP said it does not use DocuSign for signatures or send web links as a request to customers to review or sign documents by email. Spoof emails like this are common phishing schemes.

People who receive an email like this are advised to ignore it or delete it from their inboxes. Anyone who is unsure if an email or phone call is actually coming from CWLP can call Customer Service by phone (217-789-2030) or by email .

Officials reminded that people should never provide any personal information when CWLP isn’t the confirmed receiver.
