    Champaign-Urbana restaurant round-up: What’s coming, opening soon

    CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — From openings to closings, Champaign-Urbana’s restaurant scene has seen some action since the top of the month. Here’s a recap for the local foodies.

    Crumbl Cookies

    A Crumbl Cookies will open to the twin cities on Aug. 23. Since the Utah-based company opened in 2017, the business has since expanded across the country and gone viral for their rotating weekly menu of six new cookie flavors each week.

    The Champaign location will be situated at 2005 South Neil Street.

    Boomerangs Bar & Grill

    On Sunday, Boomerangs in Champaign announced they would be closed with no reopening date. Staff made the announcement on social media a day prior. They stated that the establishment needs to restructure, reorganize, and upgrade.

    But when one door closes, another one opens. As of Tuesday, staff shared that they would be reopening “much sooner than anticipated.”

    Boomerangs will reopen Wednesday from 5-10 p.m. with a limited menu and work crew. Staff expects to get back to normalcy by Monday.

    “We want to thank you all for reaching out and letting us know how important Boomerangs is to you. There really wasn’t ever any doubt about that. But a few people really stepped up and helped minimize our downtime. You know who you are. Thank you,” the business wrote on their Facebook page . “Now we can bring Booms back to Urbana and help serve this amazing community.”

    Oskee’s Sports Pub

    A new Illini-themed sports bar, Oskee’s, officially opened Aug. 5 at Atkins Golf Club in Urbana. They are open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 2560 South Stone Creek Boulevard.

    Oskee’s accepts both walk-ins and phone reservations. To save a table, call 217-481-8160.

    FLASHBACK: New sports bar to open at U of I golf club

    The Burrito Lab

    The Burrito Lab opened in late July and has since added online ordering options through their website and DoorDash. They offer a variety of options to build your own burrito, walking tacos, bowls, or taco salads. Patrons can also order quesadillas, delicious sides and more.

    The restaurant is located in Champaign at 209 East University Avenue in Suite D. They are open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

    Atomic Wings

    Atomic Wings is now open at 622 East Green Street in Champaign. Situated in University of Illinois’ Campustown, the new restaurant will be a great place for some late-night bites after a long day of studying.

    Their hours are Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to midnight.

    The Scratching Post

    This upcoming board game café will offer coffee, cocktails, snacks, and cats. That’s right — guests can spend 50 minutes interacting with adorable rescue cats, then sip on a cup of joe while competing against their friends in an array of tabletop games.

    All of the cats in The Scratching Post’s lounge will be adoptable. Patrons must make a reservation in advance to play with them. Currently, reservations are set to open this fall .

    Additionally, 20% of the cafe’s profits from food, drinks and merchandise will go to their partnering rescues — granting support that is desperately needed for shelters across Central Illinois.

    In the meantime, The Scratching Post remains under construction at 114 East University Avenue in Champaign.
