Community Spotlight: Wishes on Wheels’ 30th Poker Run

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Motorcycles will be riding around Central Illinois for the Wishes on Wheels of Champaign County’s 30th Annual Poker Run on Saturday.

For a Wednesday Community Spotlight, Erik Davis and Karen McCarty spoke about the organization and the event with WCIA’s Taylor Mitchell.

Wishes on Wheels raises money to grant wishes to local families with medically vulnerable family members. Proceeds from this year’s benefit run will go to the family of 10-year-old Donnie Philbeck, who hails from St. Joseph and is battling leukemia.

Sign-up is $10 per person and starts at 10 a.m. at the Champaign VFW Post 5520, located at 609 Edgebrook Drive. Davis said the run mostly consists of motorcycles, but cars are also welcome. The ride will take off from there at noon, stopping at several area bars, then return around 5 p.m.

Once the riders are back, there will be a Maize food truck, marbles games, live and silent auctions, and more waiting at the VFW.
