CLINTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Clinton Police Department is reminding residents to lock their cars after a series of burglaries from earlier this week.

Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers confirmed “around a dozen” vehicle owners reported their cars were broken into on the west side of town. The DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office also reported several burglaries on the outskirts of Clinton.

Only a few personal items were taken. Lowers said there were no signs of forced entry, as all cars were unlocked and someone ransacked through the cars’ glove compartments, consoles or other places.

Officials said the recent string of crimes is a good reminder to lock vehicles, remove valuables and park in well-lit lots when possible.

“Yes, we live in a small town and didn’t use to have to lock everything,” Lowers said. “That is not the case in 2024.”

Lowers said no arrests have been made in any connections to burglaries.
