BETHANY, Ill. (WCIA) — A teacher in the Okaw Valley school district was arrested over the weekend for allegedly having “inappropriate communications” with a high school student.

School administrators said in a statement on Facebook that they were made aware of this conduct Friday morning, which they said did not involve physical contact. They notified law enforcement and DCFS, which began an investigation.

Later that day, administrators said the teacher was arrested.

“The district commends our law enforcement officials for their swift and immediate action,” administrators said. “This matter remains under investigation and is a personnel matter, the district cannot provide further details.”

Administrators added that they are committed to providing students with a safe learning environment and will continue to do so in the future.
