(WCIA) — Illinois volleyball is getting ready for what it hopes to be a bounce back season after missing the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season.

This squad features four new transfers and returns All-Big Ten outside hitter Raina Terry for a fifth season.

Head coach Chris Tamas has added depth to his roster, which now has 18 players compared to 16 last year, bringing plenty of competition to preseason practices.

“We had a lot of new girls come in and we spent the summer really working on getting the integrated into our culture and into our program and what it means to be an Illini and so coaches came in and we were ready to fire and ready to go so it’s been really exciting to be so competitive and be so gritty and be able to have every practice be like that,” said senior libero Caroline Barnes.

Illinois opens up play at home on Tuesday, September 3 against Illinois State.
