Community Spotlight: Coles County Relay for Life

MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Coles County Relay for Life is an annual event that honors those who have battled cancer, including survivors and those who have passed away.

WCIA Chief Meteorologist Robert Reese was once a speaker at the Relay for Life, shortly before he passed away from complications related to cancer in 2012. Robert will be among those honored at this year’s Relay for Life, which is organized by his daughter Rachel.

She came on WCIA 3 News at Noon to preview the event and to talk about her father, a Central Illinois icon. The Relay for Life will take place Saturday, Aug. 24 at Peterson Park in Mattoon.
