Sangamon County Crime Stoppers looking for help in forgery case at gold store

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Sangamon-Menard Crime Stoppers is looking for the public’s help in investigating a report of a forgery earlier this summer at a Springfield gold store.

A white man approximately in his 30’s entered The Gold Center on White Oaks Drive on June 27 with a $45,000 cashier’s check. He used the check to buy gold pieces. While workers originally thought the cashier check was authentic, two days later the check was discovered to be fraudulent.

Crime Stoppers provided the following pictures of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 217-788-8427, visiting their website or using the P3 app. Tipsters can remain anonymous and can be rewarded with up to $2,500 if their information leads to an arrest.
