DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A teenager is under arrest in Danville after police said he led officers on a chase in a car that had been identified from a shots-fired incident.

The events that led to the arrest started around 8:47 p.m. on Wednesday, when officers were dispatched to the area of Buchannan Street and Bryan Avenue for reported gunfire. Officers found that a home and a car in the area had been hit by bullets, but no one was hurt.

While they were investigating, officers learned a black Ford Fusion was involved in the incident. 30 minutes later, at 9:18 p.m., Danville Police located a black Ford Fusion at South and Park Streets, just blocks away from the scene.

When officers tried to pull the Fusion over, officials said the driver refused to stop and a chase began. During that chase, officers saw a gun get thrown out of the Fusion’s window. The gun was recovered as evidence.

The chase ended when the driver of the fusion hit a tree in the area of Fowler Avenue and Fairchild Street. The 17-year-old driver was taken into custody and has been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated fleeing and eluding and resisting arrest.

Officials added that there was a passenger in the car, a 24-year-old man, who was released at the scene of the crash.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing. Anyone who has information about it is asked to call Danville Police at (217) 431-2250, or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at (217) 446-8477.
