SOMER TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WCIA) — One person is recovering in the hospital following a Thursday morning crash in rural Somer Township, just outside of Urbana.

Sheriff Dustin Heuerman said the crash happened in the area of North High Cross Road and East Oaks Road at 9:45 a.m. Witnesses reported that a single vehicle hit a tree and the driver was still in the car, injured from the crash.

Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters responded to the scene and found a 37-year-old man from Urbana to be the driver and sole occupant of the car. The investigation, Heuerman said, revealed he was driving north on High Cross when he lost control of his car for unknown reasons, went off the road and hit the tree.

The driver was taken to a local hospital and he is expected to be ok.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
