URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) –The 22nd year of University YMCA’s Dump and Run is over.

Students and the community took advantage of getting gently used personal items brought to the Stock Pavilion this weekend. More than 3,000 people showed up this weekend to find items like cabinets, clothes and more.

When and where can I park for Illinois’ football home opener?

One of the organizers said this program is important for the community as it keeps over 30 tons of used goods out of dumpsters.

“It’s a sustainability and reuse program, so it saves estimated 30 tons of waste out of our landfills every year,” Marc Alexander, University YMCA’s Director of Development and Membership, said. “So it’s really important environmentally to the community to keep these things out of the waste stream when they’re perfectly good to use, and then second, to provide some really low cost items, for students who come back to campus and might not have a lot of things.”

The Dump and Run exceeded the YMCA’s goal of making more than $2,000.

A portion of the money will go to University YMCA Student Board and what’s leftover will go to programs at University YMCA.
