SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Fire Department responded to three fires over the weekend that left two firefighters in need of medical attention.

The first fire happened on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. on Scott Court. Chief Ed Canny said a home caught fire and the flames burned through the roof. Two people were left displaced as a result of this fire and one firefighter needed minor treatment.

Another home fire broke out eight hours later at 2:23 a.m. on Sunday, Canny said. The fire happened in the area of Buckeye Driver and Markwood Lane, and two people were also displaced from that fire. No one was hurt and a dog and a cat also survived the fire.

The third fire happened Sunday at the old Salvation Army building at 221 North 11th Street. Canny said a second firefighter needed medical attention while fighting this fire.

Firefighting efforts at the Salvation Army fire also led to another problem, Canny said. When firefighters opened the first fire hydrant, a water main break occurred. 11th and Jefferson Streets had to be shut down even after the fire was put out.
