CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Mahomet Music Festival is one of the village’s biggest annual events and this year, they continued that legacy.

As volunteers are cleaning up the leftover equipment from this weekend, they’re proud to hear that their community hit record-breaking numbers. Officials said altogether they had nearly 20,000 people come to the music festival.

In the eyes of village administrator Patrick Brown, the free concert was a success. He said every year they listen to the feedback from the community to make the festival better.

“And we’ve been doing it for well over 20 years. It’s really just to bring awareness to the community,” Brown said. “It’s a great place, great community to live, great community to shop. showcases our downtown area. It showcases our community and we think in the long run it helps economic development for all the existing businesses.”

Brown said what also helped was the nice weather and the different entertainment they were able to get, like one of their main acts Drew Baldridge who had a song in the top 10 country charts.
