    UPDATE: Missing man with dementia found in Champaign

    Update at 11:15 a.m.

    URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Urbana Police have announced that Jimmy Joy was located unharmed Thursday morning.

    Officials said Joy was found in Champaign at Second and Church Streets around 10:45 a.m. He has since been reunited with his family.

    The Urbana Police Department thanked the community and its partners for their assistance in finding Joy and spreading the word about his missing status.


    URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Police Department is actively looking for missing man with dementia who left Carle Hospital on Wednesday.

    Department officials said Jimmy Joy, 73, was dropped off at the hospital by his sister in order to receive treatment for the cold and the flu. She left her brother in the care of hospital staff.

    Police determined that Joy left the hospital “against medical advice” at 11:30 a.m., but officers were not informed until 8 p.m. Officers have bene searching the area around the hospital, but Joy has yet to be found.

    Officials added that along with dementia, Joy has high blood pressure and is partially blind.

    Joy is a Black man with short, black hair and brown eyes. He is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 215 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and green, plaid pajama pants.

    The Urbana Police Department is asking for help from the public in locating Joy. Anyone who knows of his location is asked to call the UPD at 217-384-2320.
