    IDOT reopening lanes in construction zones for Labor Day

    SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Ahead of a busy travel weekend, the Illinois Department of Transportation is planning to open several lanes across the state to reduce traffic.

    IDOT will open most non-emergency lane closures across the state from 3 p.m. Friday to 11:59 p.m. Monday to minimize traffic disruptions for travelers on the holiday weekend.

    Labor Day weekend: Has the travel boom truly returned?

    Some roads will still be closed or have reduced lanes. IDOT warns drivers should expect delays and account for extra time when travelling through the areas. Officials also remind to pay attention to signage and posted speed limits and stay off phones and other mobile devices.

    The following roads and routes will still be closed for the long weekend:

    Champaign County

    • Westbound I-74 ramp to northbound I-57 in Champaign : closed, detour posted.
    • Northbound I-57 ramp to westbound I-74 : closed, detour posted.
    • I-57 at Pesotum/U.S. 45 (exit 220) : lane reductions continue.
    • Illinois 10 (Springfield Avenue) between Duncan Road and Mattis Avenue in Champaign : closed.

    Douglas County

    • I-57 between mileposts 202 and 215 : lane reductions continue.

    Edgar County

    • U.S. 150 about 5 miles east of Paris : lane reductions continue with traffic controlled by temporary signals.

    McLean County

    • U.S. 24 2 miles east of Chenoa: lane reductions continue with traffic controlled by temporary signals.

    IDOT officials remind everyone getting in vehicles this weekend to buckle up and only get behind the wheel if you’re sober.
