URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Police Department is still investigating a shooting from two weeks ago that left one person dead and another person hurt . They’re asking for the public’s help through Champaign County Crime Stoppers in solving the case.

The shooting happened at Hunter Street and Lierman Avenue the morning of Aug. 17. Police determined that during a party at 1:30 a.m., a group of people were in a townhouse complex’s courtyard when a physical altercation started.

At least one person pulled out a gun and started shooting, police said. One person was grazed in the hand; they were treated and released from the hospital. Another person, identified as 32-year-old William Booker, was shot in the torso and the leg.

Booker was taken to Carle Hospital, where he died from his injuries just after 7 a.m.

Crime Stoppers and Urbana Police did not provide any information about a suspect in the shooting. They’re looking for video footage that could assist in the investigation, recorded on a cell phone or a home’s outdoor security cameras.

Anyone who was in the area of the shooting when it happened, or who has cameras outside their homes near the scene, is asked to review their footage from 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 17 and look for suspicious people or cars. If they see something that stands out, they are asked to submit a tip through Crime Stoppers.

Tips can be submitted by calling 217-373-8477, visiting Champaign County Crime Stoppers’ website or using the P3 Tips app. Crime Stoppers will reward any tip that leads to an arrest in a homicide investigation with $5,000 in cash, and Crime Stoppers will never ask for a tipster’s name.
