    ‘Armed and dangerous’ Indiana man arrested in LeRoy

    LEROY, Ill. (WCIA) — A man wanted in Indiana was arrested in LeRoy earlier this week.

    LeRoy Police Chief Jason Williamson said that on Monday, his department was notified by Indiana authorities that a person wanted for felony domestic battery was believed to be staying in town. That person — 39-year-old Evan Wayne Smith — was wanted on a no-bond warrant was considered armed and dangerous.

    The LeRoy Police Department added that Smith was believed to be with his two young daughters. Officers subsequently found his car at the town’s Holiday Inn and started surveillance.

    With assistance from the McLean County Sheriff’s Office, LeRoy Police arrested Smith later that day. He was booked into jail on the Indiana warrant and is awaiting extradition.

    The two children were found safe and were taken to DCFS.

    Williamson thanked several groups of people for their assistance in locating and arresting Smith: the McLean and Hendricks County, Ind. Sheriff’s Offices, LeRoy EMS and staff at Holiday Inn.
