CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The State Board of Elections has launched a social media campaign to stress the integrity of the voting process.

Several Facebook posts highlight voter registration, election judge safety and warn of misinformation.

In Champaign County, Clerk and Recorder Aaron Ammons stressed the importance of supporting local election workers. He said his office expects to have about 325 election judges working this year.

Their role is to provide additional oversight on the integrity of Election Day.

“I can’t be at all the polling locations at one time, so it’s a team of people,” Ammons said. “They are on the frontlines of democracy.”

The people behind the tables at polling places could be your neighbors, friends or even family. Ammons hopes they’re treated as such on Election Day.

“This work is taxing, it’s stressful in many respects, but it’s also very rewarding,” Ammons said. “The combination of that stress, the importance of it, it really demands that the respect and appreciation is given to those individuals who are doing this work, because we can’t have an election without election judges.”

Ammons is hosting an election judge luncheon on Saturday to show appreciation for all of their hard work.
