(WCIA) — For the first time in the Bret Bielema era, Illinois football is off to a 2-0 start.

No. 19 Kansas came to town after winning big over Illinois last season in Lawrence.

Illinois kicker David Olano scored the game’s first points and ended the night with a pristine stat line on three field goals and two extra points.

Luke Altmyer continued to show the progress he made this offseason, passing for 192 yards on 16/25 completions.

Scoring efforts, however, came from the ground. Xavier Scott made a statement as the first half ended with a pick-six touchdown on one of his two interceptions from the night. Atwood native Kaden Feagin capitalized on two Altmyer-Pat Bryant deep receptions with a short rush into the endzone for the late lead.

The win marks Illinois’s first win over a ranked non-conference opponent since 2011. Next week the Illini host Central Michigan in an 11 a.m. Homecoming Weekend kickoff.
