    Cpl. Schreiber begins final journey home to Indiana

    WATSEKA, Ill. (WCIA) — Communities in Iroquois County are getting ready to honor a fallen law enforcement officer as he makes his final journey home.

    Corporal Brandon Schreiber of the Newton County, Ind., Sheriff’s Office passed away on Wednesday after he was shot in the line of duty . Following his passing, law enforcement planned two memorial processions.

    One procession took place shortly after his death. Champaign County law enforcement escorted Schreiber out of town toward Springfield.

    On Thursday, a second procession will take him home to Newton County.

    The procession left Springfield around 9 a.m., traveling west along Interstate 72 and north on Interstate 57.

    The City of Watseka has already prepared for the event by lining the procession route with American flags.

    After leaving Watseka, the procession will cross into Newton County and arrive at Kentland, Indiana, around 11:45. It will pause in front of the Newton County Courthouse before continuing on to its final destination.

    The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said final arrangements for Schreiber will be posted at a later date.

    The Sheriff’s Office also mentioned that there will be a blue light ceremony in Schreiber’s honor on Sunday at 7 p.m. In addition, his squad car is parked on the courthouse lawn as a memorial to lay flowers on.
