MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — No injuries were reported after a fire broke out Wednesday at the Bimbo Bakery plant in Mattoon.

Mattoon Fire Chief Jeff Hilligoss said in a release that crews arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m. Plant employees told the arriving crews that they had used a fire extinguisher but were not sure if the fire had been put out.

When the firefighters entered, they found that the fire had started in a computer equipment closet in the front office and had been extinguished by the plant employees.

After the crews were able to vent the smoke from the front office, the employees were able to return to work. The production area of the plant did not sustain any damage from the smoke or the fire. The scene was cleared just an hour after crews arrived.

Coles/Moultrie 911, Charleston Fire Department and Mattoon Police Department assisted the Mattoon Fire Department on the scene.
