EFFINGHAM CO., Ill. (WCIA) — A head-on collision involving a semi-truck Thursday morning left one person in the hospital near Teutopolis.

Crews respond to multi-vehicle collision in Effingham Co.

Firefighters were dispatched to Illinois Highway 33 near 1600th Street around 9:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found a passenger vehicle with extensive damage, and a semi-truck in a corn field.

One of the drivers signed a medical refusal, and the other driver was taken to a local hospital.

Firefighters cleared the debris from the road to allow one lane of traffic through, and they cleared the scene around 10 a.m.

According to the Teutopolis Fire Protection District, the semi-truck was not transporting any hazardous materials.

The Effingham County Sheriff is still investigating the cause of the accident.
