URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Food insecurity is a struggle for thousands of people in Central Illinois. Now, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health Department has released a map to help them find the food they need.

Officials put together the resource on google maps and it conveniently shows all food pantries and kitchens in the Champaign-Urbana area.

The Eastern Illinois Food Bank said food insecurity isn’t just about not having something to eat; it’s when people don’t have access to nutritional food. It affects 130,000 people throughout Eastern and Central Illinois.

“We don’t anticipate the need going down anytime soon,” said EIFB Vice President of Development Amanda Borden. “So, we recognize that our community is always going to come together to support those who need it. And certainly, that’s what we’ve seen and we’re just very grateful to live in a community where people are willing to step up and help their neighbors.”

The food bank works with 160 agencies in the area to help provide food security. You can find more information on how you can volunteer here , or to access the map click this link .
