SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a disturbance that resulted in two people being detained on Thursday.

Interim Sheriff Jim Allmon said the disturbance happened in the area of North Wesley Street and Enos Avenue. A 911 call at 4:42 p.m. indicated that a man was beating a woman with a baseball bat.

When deputies responded, Allmon said they found and detained a 47-year-old man who they said was involved. A 27-year-old woman also fled the property, running west toward Forrest Avenue. As deputies were detaining the man, Allmon said they heard a noise coming from the west they believed to be gunshots.

Police later found the woman after searching the area around Forrest Avenue and she too was detained.

Allmon said there were “no reported injuries to anyone involved in the incident of a life-threatening or serious nature.” The incident remains under investigation.
