CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — If you passed by the champaign Lowes today, you would have seen quite a sight. Dozens of people were in the parking lot building beds.

The organization “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” set up shop this morning from nine to noon. Volunteers were busy making twin size beds for kids in need. They’re for children 3 to 17 years old who are currently sleeping on the floor. And it’s not just the frames, they’ll be getting a mattress, sheets, and pillows. They built 90 beds, and they say this kind of project takes a village.

“And to, as Vicki pointed out, is this is not I have a president of the local chapter title, but I’m just one more piece in the cog,” said SHP chapter president Larry Uphoff. “I mean, without people like Vicki and Lowes, we just wouldn’t be able to get it done.”

Organizers say they’re still looking for donations, bed sheets and pillowcases. For information on how you can donate or volunteer visit IL-Mahomet – Sleep in Heavenly Peace (shpbeds.org) .
