DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A family of four is displaced from their Decatur home after it caught fire overnight.

The fire happened on East Hickory Street near North Folk Street. Officials with the Decatur Fire Department said responders arrived at 11:30 p.m. to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a rear bedroom window.

A search of the home found no one inside. Firefighters deployed two hose lines to battle the flames, ventilating the structure by cutting into the roof. The fire was brought under control after 40 minutes.

A search of the home found no one inside and it was confirmed that the people living there — one adult and three children — were not home at the time. They are considered displaced, and the American Red Cross is assisting them.

No firefighters were hurt battling the fire. The cause is still under investigation by the Decatur Fire Department and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
