Uniting Pride kicks off annual Pride Fest

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Uniting Pride’s annual Pride Fest is bringing people together through crafts, music and history.

The full week of festivities kicked off with a pride sign event on Sunday. Other events this week include karaoke, queer parenting advice and a movie night.

With their office located right on campus, this week is meant to help students feel comfortable and supported in their new home. While students might have the easiest access to the events, organizers said everyone is welcome to join in on the fun.

“Our big thing we’re leading into this year is ‘queer all year,’” Uniting Pride Operations Coordinator Aiden Novinska said. “It’s on the shirts that we have, and it’s the main tagline we’re leaning into this year to show the community that we’re here year-round. Uniting Pride is here for you year-round. We’re not just here in September or in June.”
