KENTLAND, Ind. (WCIA) — Funeral services are now set for Corporal Brandon Schreiber in Newton County, Indiana.

In an obituary shared by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the Schreiber family said the services will be later this week on Thursday and Friday. A visitation will take place Thursday at the Newton County Fairgrounds from 2 to 7 p.m. (CST), followed by a funeral with military rites the next day at 11 a.m. (also CST).

The Schreiber family added that memorial donations can still be made to the benefit account in their name . Donations can be taken or mailed to Kentland Bank (PO Box 145, Kentland, Ind., 47951) or be donated during the services.

Schreiber, 32, was described by his family as someone who “enjoyed protecting and serving others and always made sure to be a light of empathy even in the toughest of situations.” He always put others’ needs above his own, they said, and always wanted to make sure others were okay first.

The family also said that Schreiber was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting. But what he loved most was spending time with his family.

Schreiber was a married man who celebrated his seventh anniversary in June. He and his wife Kaitlin had two children together.

“As a family, they enjoyed spending time together camping, working their horses at the stable and taking care of their garden and goats,” the Schreiber family said. “The kids loved playing, being with Brandon and spending time wherever they went. Brandon was the quiet protector of the family.”

The family added that Schreiber cherished the friendships and brotherhood he made at his job as a Sheriff’s deputy. He worked for the Newton County Sheriff’s Office for eight years, the last five of which were full-time. Schreiber was promoted to Corporal at the start of this year.

Schreiber is survived by his wife and children, his mother, three sisters, his grandparents and in-laws.

The Schreiber family also thanked the trauma team at Carle Hospital for their efforts, care and support for Schreiber after he was shot in the line of duty on Sept. 1 .
