CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A 16-year-old is recovering in the hospital after police said he was shot overnight in Champaign.

Officials with the Champaign Police Department said the shooting happened at Bradley Avenue and Oak Street around 10:23 p.m. on Monday. Officers received reports that someone had been shot there and when they arrived, they found a 16-year-old from Urbana. He had been shot multiple times in the torso and his wounds were potentially life-threatening.

Officers and personnel from the Champaign Fire Department rendered medical aid until the teen could be taken to the hospital. Officials said he was immediately taken into surgery upon arrival and is currently resting in serious but stable condition.

The initial investigation indicated shots rang out as the teen was walking near Bradley Avenue. Police are working to determine the cause of the gunfire and who was responsible. Both remain unknown at this time and the investigation remains active and ongoing with no arrests made.

Officers are still canvassing the area to look for witnesses or video cameras that may have seen what happened. Anyone who was an eyewitness, or who has security cameras on their home, is asked to contact the Champaign Police Department.

The department’s non-emergency phone number is 217-351-4545. Alternatively, anyone wanting to remain anonymous can contact Champaign County Crime Stoppers at 217-373-8477.

I think Champaign needs to going to having some type of curfew for kids under age and even adults if you don’t have a good enough reason to be out after certain hours…
