    Road work, hazard mitigation plan gains approval in Decatur

    MACON COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Decatur City Council has approved and adopted a plan to fix local roads and to protect the county against future hazards.

    Monday night, council members approved an almost $2 million project with Dunn Co. The money will be used to fix several streets listed below and will cover more than five miles in total.

    Bay Shore Dr. Shoreline Dr. to South Shores Dr. Mill & Overlay, asphalt patching
    Point Bluff Drive, Shoreline Drive, Shoreline Place, Timber Drive, Timber Place, Hackberry Drive,
    Hackberry Place, Woodhill Drive, Woodhill Court and Baywood Drive will also receive mill and overlay and asphalt patching.

    Work on these streets will also include new sidewalk curb ramps and gutters at curb ramps. Orchard Street will get a new raised crosswalk as well.

    The council also approved the Macon County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan. According to the City of Decatur, the plan is proactive and will help the county stay safe in case of natural hazards, including tornadoes, extreme heat, drought, earthquake, flooding, severe storms, HAZMAT incidents and nuclear events.

    The Mitigation Plan will aid the City of Decatur as a risk management guide and will serve to streamline communication between different agencies in the event of disaster.

    The Mitigation Plan utilizes past data to form predictions, which then creates the mitigation plans. Having a plan will also make Macon County eligible for federal mitigation money.
