    Charleston Police debunk school social media threat

    CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Charleston Police Department has determined the community is safe after a threat went viral on social media.

    The Police Department said they were aware of a threat Wednesday evening spreading on Snapchat of threats of violence. After further investigation, officers determined the message was being circulated across the country on social media platforms like Reddit and Snapchat.

    “It was concluded that there is no immediate/local threat to the Charleston School Community,” Charleston Police Chief Heath Thornton and Charleston School District Superintendent Chad Burgett said in a joint statement.
