TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A search at a sober living facility in Taylorville on Thursday resulted in four people being arrested on charges of possessing and dealing methamphetamine in the community, police said.

Taylorville Police Chief Dwayne Wheeler said his department started an investigation after receiving information about suspected drug activity at a property at Oak and Long Streets. The property in question, Wheeler said, was an unlicensed sober living facility intended for people recovering from addition.

“This context complicated the investigation, as the intent of the facility was to support community members striving for sobriety,” Wheeler said. “Nonetheless, the Taylorville Police Department remains committed to addressing issues related to narcotic activity while supporting recovery efforts.”

As the investigation continued, Wheeler said, sufficient probable cause was established to obtain a search warrant of the home. When the warrant was served on Thursday, police arrested several people on the following charges:

    • James Crepin, the 51-year-old property owner, for possession of methamphetamine and unlawful use of property
    • Joseph Besson, 38, for possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to deliver and delivery of methamphetamine
    • Sean Neville, 29, possession of methamphetamine and possession of with intent to deliver
    • Patrick Carr, 27, for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and delivery of methamphetamine

“The Taylorville Police Department continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of our community, balancing enforcement with support for recovery initiatives,” Wheeler added. “We appreciate the citizens’ ongoing cooperation as we work to address these issues.”

He also thanked the Stonington Police Department and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office for assisting with executing the search warrant and the Christian County State’s Attorney for approving charges.
