CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Parts of Champaign and Danville were left without power Tuesday morning after a line of storms moved through the area. Not even WCIA 3’s station was immune.

The station lost power at 6:24 a.m. seconds after Meteorologist Adam Sherwinski noted a large lightning strike was audible in the main studio. Power was only out for one minute, but it was enough to take WCIA off the air for four minutes before our engineers could reset our systems to continue The Morning Show.

WEATHER NOW: Rain continues into today, “Helene” heading our way

As of 10:15 a.m., power is largely resorted in both cities, with Ameren listing only four customers without power in Champaign, Urbana and Savoy, and two in Ogden. More people are without power in southern Danville, with 39 customers listed without power.

WCIA has reached out to Ameren for further updates and to learn how many people were without power at its peak around 6:30 a.m.
