    Two teenagers shot over the weekend; Springfield Police investigating

    SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Springfield Police are investigating two shootings over the weekend that left two teenagers hospitalized.

    The first happened Saturday night just after 11 p.m., near the intersection of Milford Road and Larchmont Drive. Police said the shooting started as a disturbance nearby on Lawrence Avenue between two groups of juveniles. The disturbance resumed on Milford Road, where a 15-year-old boy was shot in the face. He was taken to a hospital but is expected to survive.

    Additionally, around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Springfield Police responded to a shooting on State Street near Monroe Street. Residents said an unknown person fired into the residence, hitting a 15-year old boy in the kitchen in his lower body. The teen was taken to a local hospital for surgery, but his injuries are non-life-threatening.

    Springfield Police have not determined if the two shootings are related or not. Investigations into both shootings are ongoing.
