URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Construction on the westbound University Avenue ramps leading to and from I-74 in Urbana was supposed to last only four months. Now, officials estimate the project will be completed in early October.

The work to rehabilitate the bridge began in the spring . A representative from Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) said the project is “winding down;” now, all that remains is concrete and asphalt work on the bridge deck.

During the project, the exit was closed and westbound I-74 was reduced to one lane at the interchange. Weather permitting, the project is estimated to be completed soon.

The construction project is a part of the Rebuild Illinois project. Over the next six years, the project will work to improve over 10 million square feet of bridge decks throughout the state.
