DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A Millikin University student was sent to the hospital with “serious injuries” on Wednesday after they were hit by a car, according to the Decatur Police Department.

Lieutenant Adam Jahraus said officers responded at 5:30 p.m. to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian near the intersection of West Main Street and Arrival Circle, right in front of the university. Officers learned that the 18-year-old student was trying to cross Main Street when they were hit by a pickup truck.

Jahraus said the student was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital but was unable to answer questions on the medical status of the student.

The driver, an 83-year-old man from Decatur, was not hurt, Jahraus added. There are no indications that he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

    The crash remains under investigation.

Officials from Millikin University said administrative staff have been in contact with the student and his family and will continue to provide support.
