URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Parents and their children in Urbana celebrated a bubbly, fun day at the park on Wednesday.

Nearly 80 kids came out to the event, where they could create, pop, and play with bubbles at the park. It was all part of the Urbana Park District’s “Take a Child Outside Week,” where they encourage parents to play with their children outside through various fun-filled events.

“We’re really just trying to create that opportunity for people. The weather’s really nice this time of year, so we’re saying, ‘Hey, we’re going to have some free events for you. Visit a park on your own or, if you want something special to do, come out here with your friends and family,'” said David Subers, Urbana Park District program coordinator. “It’s really important for mental health and development for kids, especially spending time outdoors for both physical and mental growth. We’re really happy to help provide that for people.”

The park district is hosting events all week . The final event will be a “Bat Festival” this Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Crystal Lake Park, and it is open to all.
