WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCIA) — The U.S. House of Representatives has been hit with conflict and controversy during the 118th U.S. Congress. But there is a glimmer of hope for agreement, and a lot of that glimmer is local.

Nikki Budzinski (D-IL 13) and Zach Nunn (R-IA 3) have teamed up on many legislative initiatives, including the recent Farm Bill. Nunn said they were able to find common ground on agriculture, as they both represent districts with strong ag roots.

“Ag is not a partisan issue. It is a ‘helping this country be successful’ issue,” Nunn said in part. “Nikki and I agree on far more than we may disagree on this, and she supported a number of my bills, I’m thrilled with that. She’s brought a lot of really good ideas for us too that we’ve been able to incorporate in the Farm Bill.”

The message Nunn wants to spread is that legislation like the Farm Bill won’t move forward unless Democrats and Republicans work together. He hopes the Senate will do that when they take up the Farm Bill.

We’ll have an update on the Farm Bill from Budzinski in the coming days.
