    Champaign hosting annual NAACP convention, town hall this weekend

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign is set to host the NAACP’s annual conference and the community is invited to take part.

    The NAACP is holding its 87th Annual Convention at the Hilton Garden Inn located on South Neil Street. It will take place this weekend from Friday to Sunday.

    Early voting is open in Illinois. Here’s where you can cast your ballot

    Part of the activities includes a public town hall open to the public at Salem Baptist Church, 500 East Park Street. Before the town hall, the NAACP will host a food giveaway and a new trail marker for the Champaign County African American Heritage Trail will be unveiled at the church.

    The town hall and its associated activities will take place from 5-8 p.m. on Friday.

    “The Illinois State Conference NAACP invites members, supporters, and the general public to attend this impactful event,” organizers said. “Together, we can make a difference and advance the agenda of equality and justice for all. We look forward to seeing you there and working together to make a lasting impact.”
