Meet WCIA’s Taylor Mitchell at Champaign’s new cat lounge this weekend

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — If you are looking for an activity to do with your family indoors this weekend, head out to the new Kitty Crib in North Champaign. You’ll enjoy cats and even a special WCIA guest appearance.

Moore’s Rescue Ranch is hosting the grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 28 ^th from 11a.m. to 5 p.m. WCIA’s morning anchor Taylor Mitchell will be attending. She will be reading books to the children at noon and 1:15 p.m. One lucky kid will win a book signed personally to them by Taylor.

You can stop by anytime on Saturday for free coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Food from Chelle’s Dog’s will also be available for purchase.

The Kitty Crib is a new cat lounge that is sensory friendly for special needs children and adults. The founder, Kim Dalluage says they are aiming to target students as well for a safe place to study while also enjoying the cats.

Dalluage sent the following statement:

“Our mission for Moore’s is currently being served, however our vision is to provide a facility where children with disabilities can learn how to volunteer and care for animals.  Typically, children with disabilities are discouraged from volunteering because people assume they are unable to perform the tasks, however with patience and love they can perform many of those tasks. We see our new Cat Cafe, “The Kitty Crib” as a way to meet, and begin forming bonds with our community especially our young community members.  Since we will be a sensory friendly cafe, we want to provide opportunities for children to come to the cafe and enjoy the cats but at the same time have a learning experience.”

The Kitty Crib is located at 3113 North Market St, Champaign, IL 61820, right across the street from FedEx.

All proceeds from Saturday’s event will benefit Moore’s Rescue Ranch.
