    UPDATE: Coroner ID’s victim shot 12 times after fight in Springfield

    SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Police Department and Sangamon County Coroner have released new information regarding a homicide that took place early Sunday morning.

    The Sangamon County Coroner has identified the 29-year-old victim as Telley Palmer of Columbus, Ohio.

    According to the Springfield Police Department, police responded to reports of several shots fired around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. Police found Palmer on Illinois Avenue, where he had been shot around 12 times. He was taken to Springfield Memorial Hospital where he later died.

    Police also found around 35 shell casings at the scene. They were able to determine that at least three different guns were used during the shooting. One gun was found at the scene and ballistic testing is ongoing.

    Springfield Police say the shooting was related to a fight that happened earlier in the evening at a local bar. Multiple people were involved in the fight, but police were not notified.

    The homicide occurred in the 400 block of South Illinois Street, and there were reports of multiple shots fired, according to the police department.

    One dead after Coles County crash

    According to the Sangamon County Coroner, a 29-year-old man was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead around 3:30 a.m. The identity has not yet been released by the police department or the County Coroner’s office.

    An autopsy for the victim has been scheduled for Monday morning.

    The Springfield Police Department says this is an ongoing investigation. They will share more details as information becomes available.
