    Hit and run leaves bicyclist injured in Decatur

    DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — A hit and run Friday night has left a bicyclist with “life threatening injuries,” according to the Decatur Police Department.

    Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of North Oakland Avenue around 9:00 p.m. They arrived on scene and found that a 52-year-old Decatur resident had been hit by a black 2007 Pontiac Torrent.

    Springfield Police investigating homicide, one dead

    The driver of the car hit the bicyclist then fled the scene. While fleeing, the driver hit a curb and was not able to drive the car further. The driver then fled on foot.

    The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital, and then flown to a regional trauma center with life threatening injuries.

    The Decatur Police Department Fatal Accident Investigation team responded and are investigating.

    The Decatur Police were unable to give an update on the extent of the bicyclist’s injuries. They also say that no further information is available at this time.
