CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Building and food service workers were striking for the fifth day on Friday.

The fourth day of negotiations started at 8:30 in the morning.

Union members said they’re frustrated, but working out a new contract with the university keeps them going on the picket line.

“I show up there, I listen to what they have to say,” union member Zachary Daniel said. “I listen to the stuff they’re spewing [at] us, and I just get mad. And it actually motivates me to come out here on the picket line. So, I’m able to actually come out here and sit in this not great weather, and protest with my colleagues.”

Union leaders were still in negotiations Friday afternoon.

WCIA will keep you posted on updates as we learn them.
