(WCIA) — An Illinois baseball product is playing in the MLB postseason for the first time since 2006.

Michael Massey led off the Kansas City Royals in Game 1 of their wildcard series against Baltimore, winning 1-0.

Massey was the 2018 ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner and helped lead Illinois to an NCAA Regional appearance in 2019. Kansas City drafted him in the fourth round of the 2019 draft.

The Royals finished the season with 86 wins, the most since the 2015 season ended with a World Series trophy.
