CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Urbana Champaign Reproductive Justice is collecting items like period products, pregnancy tests, and emergency contraceptives to the areas affected by Hurricane Helene.

“In the wake of the Hurricane Helene devastation, impacted communities are in need of essential items,” officials with Uniting Pride of Champaign County said in a Facebook post.

To donate, Urbana Champaign Reproductive Justice is asking to purchase items on their Amazon wishlist or donate on the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center’s website.

The volunteer pilots from Elevated Access, a Champaign-based organization that flies people in private aircraft at no cost to access healthcare, will deliver the collected items. Additionally, officials ask if people can collect donations at their office or business to contact Julie by emailing julie@ucrj.org.

More than 175 people have died from Hurricane Helene, making it one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history. The Associated Press also reports more than 1.1 million utility customers still had no power Wednesday in parts of the Carolinas and Georgia.
