SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Springfield Urban League is getting $850,000 to help people get health care coverage.

State Senator Doris Turner said the grant money will assist residents in getting direct assistance with navigating complicated plans.

“With this grant, Springfield and surrounding area residents will have direct, local assistance to help navigate complicated health care plans,” said Turner (D-Springfield). “People need to find an insurance that fits their needs, and this program will streamline the process.”

It’s part of the Get Covered Illinois Navigator Program. Five organizations across the state received grants.

Officials say the navigator program is especially helpful for non-English speakers and low-income individuals. It also really helps people with low literacy or disabilities.
