URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Hundreds gathered for the opening night of this year’s C-U Folk and Roots Festival Thursday night.

The event, hosted at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, officially kicked off the first day of a three-day annual festival. The community-run event brings national and local folk performers and organizations to Urbana.

Festivities will spread to multiple spots across downtown Urbana and will include folk dances, live music, storytelling and more.

“I think one of the cool things is that we have 50 or almost 60 different events going on. So, I think there’s something for everyone,” said Rob Sweedler, chair for the festival. “We kind of look at folk music with a really broad kind of spectrum, so we have all sorts of different styles represented and there’s a little something for everyone.”

The event will run on Friday starting at 5 p.m. and on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. For more information, you can visit the festival’s website .
