URBANA Ill. (WCIA) – An agriculture expert in Urbana is asking the farming community to help out victims of Hurricane Helene.

Andrew Pritchard is a meteorologist with Nutrien Ag Solutions. He shared resources on social media to help North Carolina farmers get back on their feet.

“These farms had everything washed away,” Pritchard said. “We got things that are on hand and people have stored on their farms that we can lend a helping hand to people who have nothing at this point.”

The post he shared was a Google form from North Carolina State University and the state’s Department of Agriculture. They are collecting hay, feed and asking for space to keep livestock from those spared from the storm.

“Any little bit is going to help — whether it’s from an ag standpoint, or just helping people get a few dollars in their pockets,” Pritchard said. “They’re starting from the beginning down there in some of these places and it’s going to be months, years, decades before it gets back to normal.”

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has additional information on how you can help.
