CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Over half a million dollars is coming to Central Illinois for mental health and substance abuse services.

A new grant for $600,000 has been received by Promise Healthcare after applying in June. They were one of 16 clinics in Illinois to be chosen by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). 400 clinics were selected nationwide.

Promise said they’re striving to be as accessible as possible for the people in their community.

“One of the problems of students being able to get in, young kids, adolescents being able to get in for services, especially for substance use and behavioral health is most behavioral health providers do not accept Medicaid as a form of payment or have a sliding fee.” said Promise’s C.E.O. Jennifer Henry. “A lot of our patients are on that, so this will allow us to be able to provide those services.”

The services mentioned will include counseling, psychiatry and substance use disorder programs. They’ll be available at the Frances Nelson Health Center and Urbana school locations.

Promise has already started the hiring process to fill needed positions.
